Lost Coast Naturals
About the Artist: Peter Janusch
Peter grew up in the southwest, Santa Fe New Mexico, where it is known as the Land of Enchantment. Here is where Peter was immersed in all forms of art. In the early 70’s, Peter was exposed to many artisans in New Mexico in glass blowing, metal foundry, art, and wood working.
His
early adult years were spent working as a mariner in the United States
Coast Guard on all four north American coasts and internationally. During his twilight years with the Coast Guard his assignment brought him to Eureka Ca.
There, Peter met Jack Birdwell a local carver who introduced him to the art of chainsaw carving behind the redwood curtain of northern California. After that introduction Peter found his calling through trial and tribulations. Peter refined his skill and understanding of the chainsaws destructive nature and creates sculptures from reclaimed wood. By late 2011, Peter was carving every weekend and any spare time he had off in Eureka CA.
When Peter started carving, he did the whole range of chainsaw art from bears, eagles, owls, buffalo, fox, and big foot. In 2010 he began to focus on marine life of salmon, whales, sea lions, turtles, and sea horses.
Peter has an artful eye and seizes what mother nature makes available. In between carvings he likes to beach comb for driftwood that he will transform into garden gates, baskets, and burl wood mushrooms.
Peter’s Lost Coast Naturals are chainsaw carvings to hand crafted driftwood that are brilliantly lifelike to functional wood art pieces that can be enjoyed and shared inside and outside of any private atmosphere of business or home.
Shipping can be arranged on all sculptures.
